Externalizing disorders in children are a common presenting problem for families seeking treatment services. Parent Management Training (PMT) is a time-limited, evidence-based treatment that provides skills training to parents, and has been shown to reduce externalizing behavior problems in preschool and school-aged children. This course will focus on the theoretical underpinnings and empirical support for PMT, and will provide an overview of the specific skills used in implementation. Participants will learn how to adapt and utilize parent-centered approaches in treatment with their clients. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to enroll in a follow-up peer supervision group, where they can gain additional coaching in the implementation of PMT strategies with cases.
