We hope everyone had a great summer! We were busy at WJCS making special memories for people throughout our community.
As we look forward to fall, here are a few highlights from the last few months. Thank you for all your support and helping us make sure no one feels they need to go through life alone |

Members of WJCS POINT (Pursuing Our INdependence Together) enjoyed a jam-packed schedule of fun activities this summer. POINT supports adults, ages 21 and older who have developmental and learning disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, and live independently in apartments located throughout downtown White Plains. Participants enjoyed outdoor evening movie showings of Grease (in the backyard of headquarters) and Kung Fu Panda (at the Kensico Dam), visits to Museum of Broadway, Hudson River Walk in Tarrytown, and a Yankee game, hiking in Croton Gorge Park in Cortlandt, ice cream socials, karaoke, Achilles Track Club, book club, art class, and so much more.

Thirty-eight families in Mt. Vernon brought their children, from infants to age 5, to play, explore, and learn at our Summer Fun at Hartley Park program, now in its 18th year! Outdoor games, story time, coordinated with Mt. Vernon Public Library, and bubble play were some of the highlights. |
Shelanu (“Ours”), a community for young adults 18 years and up who are on the autism spectrum, has kept its members delightfully busy with fun times at Dave & Busters Arcade, bowling, City Limits, Flaming Grill, and the Cheesecake Factory. |

We love celebrating the resilient spirit of our Holocaust Survivors. It was thrilling to see them delight in each other’s company when we brought them together for a festive Holocaust Survivor Day Lunch at Liebman’s Kosher Deli in Ardsley. |

We’re #WJCSProud of Center Lane’s Pride activities, during Pride Month and throughout the year. Once again, this summer, LGBTQIA+ teens in grades 9 through 12 enjoyed a fun-filled week at Center Lane’s Pride Camp and youth in grades 5 through 8 connected in a supportive environment at Rainbow Squad Camp.

We are so grateful to the kindness of our donors, supportive government officials, and generous foundations. Thank you to New York State Senator Shelley Mayer for providing $125,000 in grants to support WJCS group homes and our ParentChild+ program. With Westchester’s fastest-growing age group composed of people over the age of 65, a $40,000 grant provided by the Field Hall Foundation for Geriatric Care Management is vitally needed and much appreciated. We are thrilled to have been awarded $20,000 ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act of 2021) funding provided by the City of Mount Vernon to support digital equity programming for adults and children, in partnership with Y-COP and the STEM Alliance.
