A home away from home for young Jewish adults with autism

WJCS “Shelanu” (which means Ours in Hebrew), is a membership community for Jewish young adults, 18–35, with autism spectrum disorders, and their friends.

For young adults on the spectrum, moving into adulthood is a critical juncture. Shelanu provides the opportunity for young Jewish adults on the autism spectrum to share experiences, learn together, participate in recreational activities, build skills, and develop lasting friendships in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

The Shelanu program coordinator and group leader work with members to identify their ideas for events and programs. Collaborating with other agencies and programs, Shelanu members regularly have a rich choice of events in which to participate. WJCS social workers are on hand to address mental health issues, as needed.

Shelanu is partially funded by the TAFT Foundation.
