Programs & Services
Intergenerational Academic Support Programs pair volunteer tutors/mentors, most of who are senior adults, with youth to help them with reading, homework, and other academic subjects during the school year and in the summer. These programs incorporate enrichment activities — fun, interactive, hands-on projects and experiences — to stimulate students academically. They feature parent workshops, which involve parents in their children’s academic and social-emotional development and provide information and resources that are helpful to their households.
Licensed After School Child Care provides children with constructive, creative, and inspiring enrichment after-school activities Monday through Friday at Yonkers public schools. Our after school programs also give young adults opportunities for paid employment as trained After School Instructors.
Kinship Support Program provides numerous services for grandparents and other relative non-parents raising children that include (but are not limited to) case management, material support, mental health support, assistance with finding affordable housing, benefits assistance, and holiday and summer programs for families and kinship youth.
- GrandPower Advocacy Project educates grandparents and other relative non-parents raising children to harness their own power and organize community advocacy efforts in Yonkers that will lead to quality of life improvements for kinship families.
Supportive Housing for the Homeless Disabled provides permanent supportive housing for disabled homeless residents of Westchester County through referrals from the County’s Department of Social Services and the Hudson Valley Care Coalition.
Supportive Services for Yonkers Housing Residents who live in Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY) buildings, Section 8 housing, and other affordable housing ensures that residents receive a wide array of essential services (including but not limited to) case management, referrals to social services, assistance with rent arrears, assistance with entitlements, health care, mental health support, and community strengthening activities.
Guardianship protects incapacitated adults from neglect, abuse, and/or financial exploitation throughout Westchester and the Bronx. FSSY is Westchester’s only community-based nonprofit appointed by the New York State Supreme Court to act as legal guardian for these vulnerable individuals.
Representative Payee Services provides individuals who are incapable of managing their income and other resources with the help they need to do so when referred to FSSY by and approved by Westchester County Department of Social Services (WCDSS).
