The WJCS ParentChild+ Home Visiting Program

Formerly known as the Parent Child Home Program, envisions a world where every child enters school ready to succeed because every parent has the knowledge, skills, and resources to build school readiness where it starts: the home. This national early childhood, evidence-informed program provides home visits to parents and their children ranging in age from 16 months to 4 years old.

An Early Learning Specialist visits each family 2 times per week, building on families’ existing strengths by modelling reading, language, and play activities to stimulate parent-child interaction and promote the development of verbal, cognitive, and social-emotional skills critical for children’s long-term success. Visits are conducted with cultural humility, respecting the family’s culture and values. Many Early Learning Specialists are graduates of the program, speak the home language of the families they visit, and live in the same community as the families they serve.

The books and toys used are given to families as gifts to enjoy. They are chosen through a racial equity lens, reflecting the diversity of the communities served whenever possible. All books are in both English and Spanish. Over the course of 2 years in the program, families share a love of learning that will last a lifetime. ParentChild+ supports families to build skills that set them on the path to school and life success, to dream for their children’s futures, and to take pride in their educational accomplishments.

Parent Child+ has served the Westchester County community for over 50 years. Home visits are available for eligible families in Greenburgh, Mamaroneck, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Port Chester, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, White Plains, and Yonkers.
