WJCS Summer Happenings
☀ SUMMER HAPPENINGS
Partcipants in our WJCS Early Childhood Programs have been having a blast, playing, learning, and developing social, emotional, literacy, physical, and artistic skills. Families in our ParentChild+ Home Visiting Program celebrated their graduation in June (above) with fun-filled picnics in Yonkers, New Rochelle, Tarrytown, and Sleepy Hollow. Our Summer Fun in Hartley Park program in Mount Vernon (below) has been a huge success and even included a visit from the Mount Vernon Fire Department. The children learned about fire safety and were delighted to explore the fire trucks.
The strength and resilience of our Holocaust survivors in Westchester is always an inspiration. It was a thrill to host our 3rd Annual Holocaust Survivor Day Luncheon at Westchester Reform Temple, in partnership with UJA-Federation of NY and the Claims Conference. A huge thank you to New York State Senator Shelley B. Mayer for attending and expressing such a meaningful message of admiration about the lives and legacy that Holocaust survivors have built.
WJCS Center Lane was awarded a two-year $50,000 grant by the Westchester Community Foundation to support community-building events and activities focused on helping our transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) youth affirm their identities while also having fun.

Our Substance Use Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (SUD IOP) meets people where they are in their substance use and helps them become stable in early recovery. It also treats co-occurring mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and bipolar disorder.  The six-week program includes outpatient individual and group therapy sessions.

Our WJCS Undoing Racism Alliance hosted its 3rd annual Juneteenth celebratory and educational Lunch 'n' Learn. Each year, we learn more about this important milestone in American history. More than 60 staff members joined us and shared in the rich discussion, participated in the Kahoots quiz, and viewed an informative and impactful video.
We are so grateful to Loftex USA for another generous donation of brand-new beach towels and to volunteers from Deloitte who cheerfully assembled care packages for our clients in need.
Our WJCS POINT participants have been keeping busy. They've enjoyed a host of summer activities, including a beautiful walk and picnic along the Hudson River in Tarrytown.
Fifteen seniors from the WJCS Yonkers NNORC went on an outing to Lenoir Preserve in Yonkers. A naturalist led an excellent tour that included highlights about the history of the land and plants and wildlife at the preserve.

More than 100 WJCS employees and families came together to celebrate our 2023 Staff Award winners at our 80th Anniversary Staff Celebration on June 6th at Westchester Reform Temple. Congratulations to Rodney Campbell, Rhonda Donat, Liane Nelson, Valerie Rosen, and Zoila De La Rosa on your well-deserved recognition. Read more.

A terrific time was also had at our Annual WJCS Staff Picnic at Ridge Road Park in Hartsdale. Lots of food, games, prizes, staff spirit, and, of course, ice cream made for a memorable afternoon!
